https://journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/Abstract/2020/10000/Hourly_4_s_Sprints_Prevent_Impairment_of.23.aspx

Being inactive and sedentary has a negative effect on our metabolism, meaning our bodies' ability to absorb and deal with sugar and fats is reduced. Exercise is known to improve our metabolism, however exercise can take a lot of time and dedication. This research paper looked at what is the shortest amount of exercise we can do to boost our metabolism. They found that doing 5 rounds of 4 second sprints every hour for 8 hours (total of 160 seconds of exercise) improved that bodies ability to deal with fat the next day. You can improve your metabolism by doing just 160 seconds of sprints split up throughout the day, these short bouts of exercise throughout the day are called exercise snacks.
