Our blood vessels should be responsive to blood flow, as more blood flows through them they should expand (vasodilation) to accommodate this increased flow. This study looked at how a night of reduced sleep effects the blood vessels ability to expands to increased blood flow (flow mediated dilation). They found that a night of less then 7 hours sleep caused a reduced function of the arteries ability to expand to increased blood flow, this was due to oxidative stress that accumulated because the artery has not had enough time to recover from the previous day.
